The Characters

Twelve grade 11 students, and three chaperones (James, Peter, and myself) will be making the journey to Baan Nato, Thailand where we will embark on a project that will serve as housing for students visiting the Agricultural College in this area. The little Adobe, seen here, will be made out of clay, straw, and other organic materials. I am going to have to remember my bug repellent!

The fifteen of us will depart Vancouver on March 13 at 2am, and arrive in Hong Kong early in the morning of the 14th. There will be a quick jump over to Bangkok, and then another skip onto Chiangrai, where we will stay for a day before we take a bus to Baan Nato, which is right on the border of Myanmar (Burma) in the North. We will then start the project. Our students will be working with Thai students in this project, so it will be interesting to see how they handle the language barrier...myself included!

In the meantime, I will continue making my travel lists...any ideas?

10 Days to go

I came to the realization that I have 10 days to get prepared. To be honest, I have had difficulty preparing for this trip only because my mind has been in other places of the world that are in desperate need of relief. First came Haiti, then Chile, and I couldn't help but feel "what if our little project doesn't make a difference?". During this experience I want to recognize the different layers of relief efforts.

I have my duffel bag sitting out on the floor in the living room. The next step is to develop a list of the things that I feel are necessary (and not). I am an overpacker at the best of times! Let's get this started!
